Hey Guys! As I write this I'm on my way up to Connecticut to spend some time at the beach! This week I get to work with my faves at Rockstar Book Tours again. I seriously can't sing their praises enough <3 For today's blog post I got to read the amazing "Sasquatch, Love, and Other Imaginary Things". This book was SUCH a fun read! I devoured the entire thing in one sitting.
To her dismay, when she arrives she finds that the other team is made up of rich, attractive, well-dressed, ivy league bound prep school kids. In contrast, her chaotic, fanny-pack wearing family embarrasses her to no end. At the beginning, Sam mostly wishes she were anywhere but in the woods hunting for Sasquatch, but the longer the challenge goes on the more determined she is to win and wipe the smug look off the rich prep kids' faces. Throughout the challenge, Sam must make unlikely allies and use her wits, daring, and mad sabotage skills to find the mythical Sasquatch.
I loved this book. I grew up watching the Lost Tapes show on Animal Planet and all of the other shows about cryptids, so this book totally took me back. This book really captured the wacky, wonderful world of cryptozoology and all of the quirky characters in that world. Sam was a funny, smart, and fiercely protective narrator, and I loved her voice. The plot was well-paced, and the challenges of the reality show kept us guessing at every twist and turn. I especially love the relationship between Sam and her sisters. Capturing all the aspects of sibling relationships in a novel is very challenging, but this book did an excellent job. Their relationships were well-developed, and not at all one-dimensional.
If you're looking for a great, light-hearted, funny, summer read, then this book is for you. Sam is an awesome heroine to root for, the premise is original, and it's extremely well-written!
